FLOOD ZONE CORRECTION, INC. (FZC) PARTNERS WITH FLORIDA’S CIVIC AND PROFESSIONAL COMMUNITY

(July 26, 2004 - West Palm Beach, FL) – This month, Flood Zone Correction, Inc. (FZC), the nation’s leading flood zone correction company, is proud to announce membership affiliations with five local community organizations that serve the interests and concerns of residential and commercial property owners. They are:

Florida attorney and newspaper columnist, Mark Bogen, serves as executive director. FZC holds a “Friend of the Coalition “ membership.

The Broward County Landlords Association, Inc. (www.BrowardLandlords.com), of Coconut Creek, FL, an organization of landlords, property managers and maintenance professionals in Broward County, FL. Alex Prize serves as president. FZC holds an associate membership.

The Broward Coalition of Hollywood, FL, an alliance of condominium, homeowners and community organizations in Broward County, FL. Charlotte Greenbarg serves as president. FZC holds a regular membership.

The Northeast Dade Coalition of Aventura, FL, a non-profit civic association composed of more than 100 condominiums, cooperative, homeowner and civic associations that serve more than 40,000 residents in Dade County, Florida. Paul Libert serves as president. FZC holds a “Business Friend” membership.

Community partnerships are vital components of FZC’s role as an advocate for fairness in the evaluation of flood risk and the imposition of flood insurance requirements. They allow FZC to maximize public awareness and to ascertain the impact of unwarranted flood insurance. Additionally, FZC has affiliations with The Hillsborough County Flood Insurance Rate Map Project Community Stakeholders and Citizens Committee (member), Risk and Insurance Management Society (member), the Community Association Institute (member), the National Multi Housing Council (member), the National Apartment Association (member), the South East Florida Apartment Association (member), the Florida Association of Homes for the Aging (shared services member) and the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation Homeowners Association Task Force (participant).

“Membership in these organizations is where the rubber meets the road,” states Dan Freudenthal, president of Flood Zone Correction, Inc. He continues, “ Florida property owners pay more than $616 million every year to maintain 1.8 million flood insurance policies through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). When you compare this to what they receive in NFIP claim payments, there’s a big difference between the $616 million Florida annually puts into the NFIP and the $62 million in average annual claim payments Florida receives from the NFIP. Our community affiliations present ideal forums to address the various constituencies on how flood zone correction can help property owners save money, improve the value of their real estate investments and assist them in making educated flood insurance decisions.”

Flood Zone Correction, Inc. headquartered in West Palm Beach, FL, is the leading advocate for consumers and commercial building owners throughout the country, promoting fairness in the evaluation of flood risk and imposition of insurance requirements. Flood Zone Correction, Inc.’s clients own and/or operate well over 1.7 million multifamily units and over one thousand shopping malls, retail plazas, office buildings and industrial properties, as well as single family homes, town homes and condominiums.

The experience of previous and current storm seasons underscores the importance of flood risk awareness. Now, more than ever, property owners must protect their assets and be mindful of a program in dire need of reform.

Legislative hearings on the administration of the National Flood Insurance Program revealed many problems. Not only is the program in debt, but also the vast majority of the nation’s flood maps are inaccurate and the program benefits a small percentage of policyholders who own properties that are truly at high risk of flooding. In other words, the majority of low-risk property owners forced to buy high-risk flood insurance are paying premiums to subsidize primarily repetitive loss properties and a seriously flawed program.

We deserve a program that is fair to all property owners in all flood risk categories.

When a main river or canal approaches flood stage, a floodgate failure prohibits water flow to reservoirs, streams or levees, causes water levels to rise in main rivers and canal channels and prevents the flow of water into a flood bypass or detention basin. Accumulating storm debris also hinders the proper operation of floodgates and canals. The impact of such failures can be devastating to both life and property especially following a tropical storm or hurricane....
