Flood Zone Correction, Inc. Warns Property Owners:
Beware of Floodgate Failures
(June 8, 2006 – West Palm Beach, FL) – As the 2006 storm season gets underway, Flood Zone Correction Inc. (FZC), the nation’s first flood zone correction company, urges all property owners to know their true flood risk to ensure their homes and buildings are adequately insured and to efficiently allocate their insurance dollars.
“Now’s the time to review your insurance policies,” states Dan Freudenthal, president of Flood Zone Correction, Inc. He continues, “Property owners at high risk of flooding may want to secure additional flood coverage, whereas property owners at low risk of flooding may benefit from reallocating their flood premium dollars to high windstorm deductibles, debris removal and new landscaping after devastating weather events.”
Recent legislative hearings on FEMA’s administration of the National Flood Insurance Program reveal that the vast majority of the nation’s flood maps are inaccurate. Says Freudenthal, “Over 90% of the high-risk flood zone designations we’ve reviewed were wrong. Excluding the New Orleans levee system failure, experts attribute the majority of 2004 and 2005 hurricane damage to wind, not flooding.”
“With insurance premiums rising rapidly and limited dollars for such expenditures, property owners must scrutinize their risk more closely than ever before to make wise budget decisions,” Freudenthal notes. The process of flood zone correction empowers property owners by educating them about their true flood risk and giving them the right to reallocate their flood insurance dollars as they deem most beneficial. FZC offers a free flood risk analysis to residential and commercial property owners, as well as, condominium associations, currently designated in high-risk flood zones.
Consumers and companies should
further scrutinize these requirements on the basis of claims and claim
payments. Over a 25-year period, property owners in the United States have
filed approximately 1.2 million claims, with 901,000 claim pay-outs for a total
of $12 billion. That’s a discrepancy between the $1.8 billion consumers and
companies annually put into the NFIP and the $490 million annual average that
they receive in NFIP claim payments. These statistics are strong indicators
that many homes and buildings were built responsibly to protect against
catastrophic flood events, and therefore, should not be in the SFHA. If your
home has been free of flood damage since you’ve lived there, it probably does
not belong in the SFHA.
