Flood Zone Correction, Inc. EMPOWERS HOMEOWNERS AT HOME DESIGN AND REMODELING SHOW

(May 17, 2004 – West Palm Beach, FL) – Flood Zone Correction, Inc. the nation’s first and only flood zone correction company, will host an exhibit at the Fort Lauderdale Home Design and Remodeling Show, May 28 through May 31, 2004, at the Broward County Convention Center, 1950 Eisenhower Boulevard (Fort Lauderdale, FL).

The Fort Lauderdale Home Design & Remodeling Show displays the latest in home improvements, décor and services for South Florida homeowners. The four-day event anticipates an attendance of more than 100,000 persons. The admission price is $8 for adults and $1 for children under age twelve.

Flood Zone Correction, Inc. invites residential and commercial property owners to visit Booth #2223 in the Convention Center to learn how they can save money, improve the value of their homes and buildings, and become educated flood insurance consumers. They can also sign up for a free flood risk analysis, a comprehensive examination of homes or buildings within Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) designated SFHA’s (Special Flood Hazard Areas). The analysis will either underscore the need for a lender’s flood insurance requirement or provide an indication that the flood insurance requirement should not exist. Flood Zone Correction, Inc. hopes savings start instantly for one or more of the first 2,500 property owners to sign-up for a free analysis. Each will receive a $1.00 scratch-off card for the Florida Lottery game “Cash Jubilee.”

“The Fort Lauderdale Home Design and Remodeling Show is a great opportunity to encourage homeowners to be proactive in the protection of their assets,” states Dan Freudenthal, President of Flood Zone Correction, Inc. Freudenthal continues, “Throughout South Florida, many low flood risk property owners are being required to pay for high flood risk coverage. Ninety-percent (90%) of the designations we’ve evaluated reveal property owners should be able to choose a level of coverage that best meets their needs instead of being forced to buy an amount dictated by their mortgage companies. We’d like them to know that they have options and can turn to a company that does more than rely on a single factor to determine flood risk.”

South Floridians purchase over 900,000 flood insurance policies through the NFIP (National Flood Insurance Program) at a cost of more than $252 million every year. Yet, over a 25-year period, the NFIP’s annual South Florida claim payments average only $13 million. That’s a big discrepancy between what South Florida puts in and what South Florida receives, especially when you consider events like Hurricane Andrew.

Removing unwarranted flood insurance requirements saves homeowners $300 to $500 every year. That adds up to $12,000 to $15,000 over the course of a 30-year mortgage!

Flood Zone Correction, Inc. headquartered in West Palm Beach, FL, is an advocate for residential and commercial building owners throughout the country, promoting fairness in the evaluation of flood risk and the imposition of insurance requirements. Since its founding in 2001, Flood Zone Correction, Inc, has successfully reclassified over 90 percent of the residential and commercial properties evaluated, saving clients millions of dollars and adding tens of millions of dollars to property values.

The experience of previous and current storm seasons underscores the importance of flood risk awareness. Now, more than ever, property owners must protect their assets and be mindful of a program in dire need of reform.

Legislative hearings on the administration of the National Flood Insurance Program revealed many problems. Not only is the program in debt, but also the vast majority of the nation’s flood maps are inaccurate and the program benefits a small percentage of policyholders who own properties that are truly at high risk of flooding. In other words, the majority of low-risk property owners forced to buy high-risk flood insurance are paying premiums to subsidize primarily repetitive loss properties and a seriously flawed program.

We deserve a program that is fair to all property owners in all flood risk categories.

When a main river or canal approaches flood stage, a floodgate failure prohibits water flow to reservoirs, streams or levees, causes water levels to rise in main rivers and canal channels and prevents the flow of water into a flood bypass or detention basin. Accumulating storm debris also hinders the proper operation of floodgates and canals. The impact of such failures can be devastating to both life and property especially following a tropical storm or hurricane....
